During the 1950's there was
a whole series of sci-fi films based upon creatures that had been mutated
into gigantic sizes by various means, nuclear bomb testing being the
most popular. Probably the most famous of these was a 1954 film called
Them! where irradiated
giant ants attacked and controlled a town in the desert. They were defeated
by a group of scientists & the army working together. The perfect
setting for another Blockbuster game setting!

Humans
Figures used the same character
ones as used in the Resident Evil game, a mixture of makes including
West Wind &
Hasslefree amongst
others
Ants
The ants came
from an American source that had been mentioned on the Lead
Adventure forum and are a perfect scale to use as giant ants against
28mm figures. They come from the US
TOY Company and
you get a huge bag for next to nothing price wise

Scenery, again, was mainly
the same buildings etc used in the Resident Evil game
I constructed some 'bughole'
entry points using 50mm MDF circles with some 5mm foamcore board cut
at angles and stuck to the top and textured. I also needed some rocky
hills to go in the desert, I had some pre-bought sand dunes but they
didn't look right. So I grabbed some insulation foam and a hot wire
cutter and quickly cut out some rough shapes. These were textured a
with sand/grit mixture and then painted, finally finishing off with
some static grass in small clumps

The rules were based upon
the tried & tested ones that I used for the Resident Evil game.
I decided to drop the item cards for this game, instead going for a
standard weapon for all the characters plus the added explosives that
could be collected around the tabletop
The ants followed the same
rules as the zombies did in the previous game but I increased their
movement and introduced the poison & spawn ideas to make them slightly
different
I needed some counters to
use for the explosives & to keep track of wounds taken, a quick
search of the internet came up with suitable images and I created a
sheet that contained more than enough for the game
The rules and counters can
be downloaded as PDF files here

I have only run this as a
playtest game so far, and have tweaked a few rules here and there to
cover situations that occurred. It should make it's main club outing
shortly and a full report will follow
